FEI Waldfried Euro-Future Cup
FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup -
the final curtain fell with the splendid 2003 Final at Frankfurt - in 2004
the FEI World Futue Cup will be established under the direction of the FEI
The FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup
had become an important post for the international dressage sport for
Juniors and Young Riders since 1998. In 2003 it was scheduled in two
leagues, one Eastern and one Western European League. Additionally, in the
2003 Final for the first time one rider from the U.S.A. and one rider from
Canada had a starting permission. That the US-FN sent the current
North-American Dressage Champion Young Riders, Mary Haskins-Gray, who
placed third in the FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup Final 2003, showed how
highly it valued the reputation of the series.
Encouraged by this success the
FEI has decided end of 2003 to extend the series to the FEI World Future
Cup and will do it furtheron under its own direction. The Waldfried
Dressage Stables wishes the FEI good luck and success for the future
enterprise.

Waldfried Euro Future Cup Final 2003
Splendid

As
in the previous years also the 2003 Final of the FEI Waldfried Euro Future
Cup took place in the for Christmas festively decorated 'Festhalle'
(Festival Hall) during the International Frankfurt Horse Show. For the
first time victory in the final went with the Dutch rider Thamara Zweisten
and the eleven year old gelding Hexagon's Kyrian (77.125) abroad Germany.
The winner Thamara Zweistra, Manfred Louven (Waldfried Dressage Stables),
Eva Salomon (FEI), Béatrice Bürchler-Keller (Chief Judge), Gerda
Lehmann (lemmi-fashion)
The
splendid, by lemmi - fashion sponsored freestyle final on Prix St. Georges
level was won by the runners-up of the qualifiers at Saumur (FRA) and Brno
(CZE) to a Phil Collins medley ahead of the winner of the final rankings
and reigning Team European Champion Young Riders Benjamin Werndl of
Germany. The winner of the qualifiers at Brno and runner-up at Neubeeren
(GER) achieved aboard the ten year old Oldenburg gelding Achill with a
performance full of drive a score of 75.425 per cent.
Third became the US-American rider Mary Haskins-Gray aboard the ten
year old gelding Fregat (70.325). The 2003 North-American Dressage
Champions Young Riders had been selected by their federation to represent
their country in the final.
The winners: Thamara Zweistra (NED) and Hexagon's Kyrian
The efforts of the
US federation show how big the interest in the FEI Waldfried Euro Future
Cup is worldwide. In 2004 the series shall be enlarged to a real World
Cup. The Young Riders and Juniors will have the chance to qualify in more
than 30 international events worldwide for the 2004 Final at Frankfurt.
Exact rules are currently drawn out by the FEI. In 2003 young dressage
riders from 15 nations participated in the FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup,
of which the best riders of the overall rankings had qualified for the
Final at Frankfurt.
Third-placed Mary
Haskins-Gray (USA) aboard Fregat and the fourth-placed Emelle Brolin (SWE)
aboard Contact
Since
Manfred Louven has not only taken over the sponsoring of the series in
2000, but also speaks up for its further development, the series meets a
great interest and recognition of its value for the development of the
dressage sport in the age group of 16 to 21. This had led to the point
that the FEI has taken over in 2001 the patronage of the series and
actively supports its further development.
The
FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup is an unique series since nothing comparable
has existed, so far, in any of the equestrian disciplines for young riders.
It supports not only the level of the dressage sport in the participating
countries, but as well the relationship between the young riders across
national borders.

Repeated
success for the Werndl brother and sister in the Czech city of Brno
As in the
previous qualifier for the FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup at Neubeeren
(GER) the Werndl brother and sister from the Bavarian town of
Aubenhausen (GER) were placed among the top three also in all three
classes of the FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup at
the international dressage show in the Czech city of Brno. Different to
Neubeeren, where she had won all three classes, it was not the current
European Individual and Team Junior Champion Jessica Werndl, who was the
more successful of the two, but her elder brother Benjamin Werndl.
Jessica, who competes in this year already as a Young Rider though still
in Junior age, became three times third.
Benjamin Werndl,
the current European Team Champion Young Riders, took victory in the
Freestyle to music on Prix St. Georges level aboard Sam with 71.525
percent. In the freestyle test the valuable points are ahieved for the
rankings of the FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup, which will decide about
the qualification for the Final to be held in December in Frankfurt am
Main. The strongest competitor for the 19-year-old Benjamin Werndl was
not his sister but Thamara Zweistra. The Dutch rider was able to win
aboard Hexagon's Kyrain the two first classes, in which the tests for
the European Championships Young Riders are ridden. In the freestyle
test she became runner-up shortly beaten by Benjamin Werndl
(71,075).(bp)

Werndl had already won the two qualifiers for the kür, while Benjamin
Werndl and Nikolas Kröncke were alternating on the places two and three
in these two classes. The starting field at Neubeeren distinguished
itself not only by its quality but also by its internationality. In the
first class 17 riders from eleven nations were competing. The organizers
had taken care for a first-class event in a pleasant atmosphere. (bp)
Victory
in front of a home crowd for Valentina Truppa in the Italian city of
Barzago
In the third leg
of this year's FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup the Junior rider Valentina
Truppa was able to secure victory against her older and more experienced
competitors in front of a home crowd during the CDIYRJ at the Italian
city of Barzago. With Don Rico she took undisputedly victory in all
three classes of the FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup, in the most
important class, the Freestyle to music on Prix St. Georges level, even
with the impressive score of 74.66 per cent.
In freestyle
test, win which the points for the series' standings and therefore for
the final qualification counting points are given, places two and four
went with Jan-Dirk Giesselmann/Platini and Julia Dunz/Wolgastrom to
Germany. Between the two German combinations the Swiss rider Melani
Manser was able to place third aboard Lanthano. Austria's Franziska
Miedler became fifth aboard Sattrick. With this result it had on the top
five places riders from four countries, which proves again the
internationality of the series.
With twice a
third place at Addington (GBR) and Saumur (FRA) the Dutch rider Tommie
Visser leads the standings aboard Blue Ocean after the show at Barzago
with thirty points followed in shared second place with twenty points by
Jan-Andreas Viebrock/Directeur (GER), Charlotte Edmonds/Broomford Locano

to an virus disease outbreak. (bp)
Jan Andreas Viebrock dominates the second qualifying show of the FEI
Waldfried Euro Future Cup
As
the three classes of the 2002 FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup Final at
Frankfurt/Main (GER) the Individual Silver medallist of the 2002
European Championships Young Riders, Germany's Jan Andreas Viebrock,
dominated also the second qualifying show of the FEI Waldfried Euro
Future Cup. While he had been riding Muchacho in the 2002 Final, he was
now taking victory in all three classes aboard Directeur at the CDIYJ
Saumur (FRA) on the grounds of the Cadre Noir. In the freestyle to music
on Prix St. Georges level, for which the best twelve riders of the
preceding two classes qualified, he secured a certain victory with a
percentage of 72.25. The places two and three were covered by the Dutch
combinations Thamar Zweistra/ Hexagon's Kyrain
(70.90) and Tommie Visser/ Blue Ocean (70.15), which took turns
on these two places already in the first two competitions. Place four

nations had participated. (bp)
FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup 2003:
Brilliant start at
Addington (GBR)
Mid-April the
2003 FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup Series had its first-class start at
the international dressage show for Juniors and Young Riders at
Addington (GBR). In a splendid frame-set 25 combinations from Germany,
Great-Britain, Ireland, the Netherlands and Sweden competed against each
other in the FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup classes. The team competition
as well as the freestyle final saw the representatives of the host
nation in top of the German participants. Victory in the freestyle test
and therefore the lead in the current FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup
rankings took Great-Britain
's Charlotte Edmonts aboard
the experienced, 12-year-old gelding Broomford Locano with an
outstanding percentage of 74.36. Runner-up became the German rider
Kristina Spaniol aboard Dienna (70.19) followed by the Dutch rider
Tommie Visser aboard Blue Ocean (69.71). Manfred Louven from the
Waldfried Dressage Stables insisted on being present at this year's
upbeat of the series and he was delighted by the Addington event, "It
took place in a wonderful atmosphere with excellent sport. Everything
was of the best." The second qualifying event for the mid-December
final at the international Frankfurt Horse Show will take place at the
CDI Saumur (FRAU) the first weekend of May. (bp)
FEI
Waldfried Euro Future Cup will be extended in 2003
The FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup has become a
significant, all over Europe very popular competition for Young Riders
and Juniors in the international dressage sport. Therefore the number of
events has been enlarged from six in 2002 to nine in 2003. For the first
time the since 1998 existing series will be held in two leagues in 2003.
The CDIs Budapest (HUN; June 6 - 9) and Brno (CZE; June 20,- 22) belong
to the Central European League, of which two riders can qualify for the
final.
The CDIs at Addington (GBR; April 11 - 13),
Saumur (FRA; May 1 - 4), Barzago (ITA; May 16 - 18), Aarhus (DEN; May 29
- June 1), Neubeeren (GER; June 12 - 15), Mesikon (SUI; August 5 - 10 or
September 15 - 21) and
Wanroij (NED; November 19 - 23) count for the Western European League,
which sends seven riders to the final. Additionally up to three
wildcards can be invited to the final to be held during the
international Frankfurt Horse Show, December 12 - 14.
A new step the FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup is
going to take by inviting one rider from USA and Canada respectively
with borrowed horses to the final.
In accordance with the sense of the European idea and in view of the
chance to enable young riders to meet cross-borders and compete in
international first class shows, the Frankfurt dressage training and sales barn
Waldfried Dressage Stables promotes the FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup.
The Waldfried Dressage Stables' philosophy is to offer young riders
high-quality and easy-to-ride horses, but also to make it possible for
the young European dressage talents to gain international experience in
front of large crowds at important horse shows and to cultivate
international friendships between same-aged riders.
Since Manfred Louven has not only taken over the
sponsoring of the series in 2000, but also speaks up for its further
development, the series meets a great interest and recognition of its
value for the development of the dressage sport in the age group of 16
to 21. This had led to the point that the FEI has taken over since 2001 the patronage of the series, has recognized it as an 'FEI-development-project'
and supports it also financially from its 'Development-Fonds'. Manfred
Louven is very satisfied with the on-going of the series, "With our
commitment we want to help to interest more nations for the top level
dressage sport. Therefore it is important that the future Senior riders
meet already in fair competitions and gain experience on top shows in
young age."
Each qualifying event and the
final exists of three classes. By the first two classes (the YR European
Championships individual and team tests) the top riders qualify for the
Prix St. Georges kuer to music, in which they receive points for the
series' rankings.
With the exception of the final at Frankfurt all qualifying events
include a team competition, which comes in its value close to a Nations
Cup. Unlike an official Nations Cup also four riders of different
nationalities can form a team.
The FEI Waldfried Euro Future Cup is based on
long-terms and shall assure that as many countries as possible are able
to put together national teams of high standard with well-trained riders
and horses. Since only, if a large number of countries will be able to
nominate many good riders for international championships also in the
future, it can be assured that the dressage sport will maintain an
Olympic discipline.
